i wave 2 him, trying 2 be discrete about it but also trying 2 get his atention. surprisingly, he notices. its almost as if he wer looking for me.. oh shut up dont get urself excited about somthin thts probly nuthing. il only be disapointed. he barely nods his head, just enuf so i only notice wat hes doing. he then casually walks 2 the lunch line, heading towards me. the principal is in the room with a fricken megaphone telling everyone the girls in particular 2 stay in their seats & 2 stay quiet. so aka dont go tackle justin bieber & stop shrieking. justin reaches me & smiles. i dont think i will ever get over tht smile.
"how was ur spanish class?" he asks.
"oh fantastic. i learned nuthing." i smile. "& how was... whatever class u just had?"
"Gym. wer doing floor hockey. so good. hockeys my favorite sport."
"cool. im really bad at any hockey related sport." i confess
"really? floor hockeys really not tht bad 1ce u get the hang of it. i could show u if u wanted to learn." he offers.
"oh.. uh.. ya. ya tht would be really cool. uh, thanks." i stutter. he smiles. hes always smiling. 1ce i get my lunch i start scaning the room 4 my table. i spot aly & go 2 sit.
"hey wait up!" justin hollers after me. i turn around, expecting 2 hear somthin about hockey.
"hey. whats up?"
"well i dont know anyone except u & ur friend so could i-"
"yes u could sit at r table. of course."
"thanks." he says. always so polite. im starting 2 realize now tht im much more comfortable around him than i ever thot possible. still maybe a little star struck but i feel like we mite be making healthy progress toward being good friends. as i walk him 2 the table all eyes r glued 2 us. the girls glare. i hate being watched. i fold my arms & look down and away, something ive always done when im feeling self conscious. he can tell. he puts a comforting hand on my shoulder.
"it wont last forever." he wispers. i turn 2 smile at him but realize a bit 2 late that hes a little 2 close 4 comfort. well actually im feeling totally comfortable but u no wat i mean. he looks into my eyes & i gaze back. i feel almost nauseous with crazy butterflies & also a little light headed. i involuntarily pull back & he drops his hand. im not even kidding wen i say tht i see hell burning in every girls eyes as i scan the room. i drop my gaze.
"it really wont." he says again. i give him a doubtful look. is he serious? "theyl get used 2 the idea tht im here & theyl stop doing..." he looks around. "this." we wer infront of my table during this whole episode. alys mouth is hanging open, eyes wide, fork half extended 2 her mouth, frozen. Jamie is absolutly disgusted. she never really did grow out of the boys can only be friends stage. but i could care less we dont really talk much. maddy is giggling uncontrolably. i love her, shes amazing. & then all the guys just dont really care. i like the guys tht sit at r table. they rnt pig heads, man whores, rude, or ugly. theyre all hilarous 2 like how older brothers should be .
"Right, uh, ok lets just sit down." i suggest.
"Yah. uh il just sit rite here." he takes the seat rite next 2 mine. i beam. the rest of the day is for the most part uneventful. il just skip 2 the bus ride home.
"so tell me everything u guys said 2 each other in the lunch line!" aly demands. i revise everything i can remember.
"Oh my god seriously?! he totally likes u! hes so incredibly nice and cute with u! how can u not see it bre?" she shakes my shoulders. i squirm out of her grasp.
"because i dont want 2 set myself up 4 disappointment!" i admit. "again! i dont want it 2 be like b4. so im just gonna settle 4 friends rite now ok?" aly sighs. she nods slowly.
"Ok. 4 now. but if he can convinse u he does really like u then do u promise 2 be brave & take a chance at being happy?" aly begs.
"...ok. but its gonna take a lot for me 2 trust any1 wit my hart agen."
"i no. & i understand tht. but i think justins special. i think he mite be different." i roll my eyes.
"we'll c." theyr both home & briannas on the phone wit aly
"so r u coming over 2day 2 study?" she asks
"well actually i dont think so. justin invited me over 2 work on hw & study & stuff." i answer. he had asked me on r way 2 the bus this afternoon. & how did i respond? "uh..uh..um.. ya, ya tht would be a-awesome." ya. such an idiet.
"OMG shut up!" aly enthuses
"ya its not a big deal. wer getting 2gether 2 do hw not geting engaged." well im trying 2 convinse myself its not a big deal.
"ik tht silly. so go then have fun!."
"ya. ok aly thx il c u l8r."
"bye!"
take a deep breath. just ring the doorbell 4 gods sake ! i ring it. ok breath. make eye contact. speak! the door swings open.
