Agree with all, would like to see secession become a reality, but unfortunately every time the topic comes up someone has to define the South as "Christian". My fear is that secession will bring about a new nation that is a theocracy where so-called "Christian values" are forced on the minority who do not define themselves as Christian. We currently live under the oppressive "religion" of Political Correctness and I'm not keen on replacing it with another jacklegged standard of morality.

@40AcreMule Culturally the South is Christian. But the folks I work with in the secession movement want more liberty, not a theocracy. Most of us want a whole lot less government interference in our lives.

I am Asian, but I lived in Missouri and Texas. I had been to Southern states and I never saw nice and warm people like southerners.

@imhornydadcomeinside....... i'm southern born and raised. i just don't think it does us any good to still be fighting almost 150 years later. i would just think the best revenge would be to beat them at their own game, like we are doing in charlotte and atlanta. however, when certain of our southern brothers and sisters go out and act stupid, they end up proving what they say about us up north.

@tranurse I'm not "still fighting" any war. The war's over as you said. However, the cause of the South - that of independence - is just. We should be free to govern ourselves. And as the US Empire crumbles we are trying to reassert our national identity and regain freedoms which have been lost.

The United States itself is a product of "illegal" secession from Britain.

Hundreds of thousands of Americans died overseas to protect other people's right to secede.

@tranurse The US was a Confederation until 1865. The founders never would have put a Corporate Government in place that was superior to the States. They fought a war to free all of the states/nations from British control allowing them to retain authority over their areas. King George individually aknowledged all of the states sovereignty. New England Yankees wanted a return to the British imperial system which is what we have now. The transformation was started in 1868 and completed in 1876.

@Fatboylt2 Exactly. If it was over slavery only the south never would have left. We didn't identify with Yankees in anyway by 1860 and when the entire north elected a tyrannical constitution hating president we left. Secession and slavery are two different topics. It is indisputable that South Carolina left over the Tariff increases Lincoln was putting in place putting it back at the level that nearly caused SC to secede in the 1830's. SC was sick of putting up with Federal BS.

@IslandersMets10 Generally speaking, a carpetbagger is a general insult by Southerners to any Yankee that moves to the South or attempts to profit from the South at the expense of its people. So, in essence, the term applies. However, the correct term for a Northerner, who supports the South, is Copperhead.
