  • @trendon Really.........Don Cherry was the one that said McCcreary nevcer played again in rockem sockem 2 or 3. I stand corrected....thanks

  • @pitchingwedge1 The myth that McCreary never played another shift in the NHL is false - the January 3 game was McCreary's 2nd game in his 12 game NHL career. (From Wikipedia)

  • @pitchingwedge1, the league had to protect their best players (they did with 99; with Howe... now, they do protect Sid the Kid).

I went to Edmonton last summer. I loved the experience, it's a nice city. I'm coming from Quebec...

    :D

  • @Legend33Larry The dude was protected by the league. Of course he was a good player but he was a winny tit that cried about everything and usually got his way.....thats sad and thats how I remember him, and im from Edmonton(please dont hold it against me haha)

  • Plus, just look how Orr described him! According to number 4, 99 was the best passer to ever laces skates; was excellent to read the opponent strategie; and, the most intelligent player on the ice he ever saw.

Watch ESPN classics with Bobby Orr (I don't remember which episode); it's still a great tribute to 99 and legends of the sport.

    (sorry for my English mistakes)

  • 6) ''Record'' for a rookie (he wasn't considered as a rookie, because he played the WHA): 137PTS... he did it, and he was almost alone: McDo & Callighen aren't even decent players! When Rob Brown look like a superstar on you, there's a problem.

    7) Gretzky changed the hockey world: « But vision is something else, something more elusive. Opponents struggling to anticipate Gretzky's next move often became disoriented: He changed the NHL and the hockey world. »

  • @hattrick1972, overrated?

    1) Over 50 records in the league...

    2) Oilers: -40 from '88 to '89

    Kings: +58 from '88 to '89 (arrival of 99)

    3) He was the best player in Edmonton, in LA and in NY (I never watched him as a Blues, but...).

    4) McDonalds scored 46 goals in a season with 99, AND never surpassed 18 goals in a schedule (Vancouver)! Why?-» 99

    5) When he played w/ McDo & Callighen (rookie season), he finished w/ 137PTS; ties with Dionne who played with Simmer & Taylor.

  • I heard that Mcreary never played another shift after this hit. The league groomed Gretz to be its savior and he did save the NHL. But I think he is overrated

  • @Legend33Larry Thes only fact that anyone needs to know about that prick Gretzky is that he never could win another Stanley Cup after he left Edmonton. Which proves that he never could have broken any record if it hadn't been for the guys he played with in Edmonton.

  • @Legend33Larry I watched him play his entire career in Edmonton from a seat three rows from the ice at Northlands Coliseum and I wasn't impressed.
