The subtitle of the anthem in Bahasa Melayu but why most of the people of Singapore can't speak in Bahasa Melayu ?

We're a MULTI-Cultural society, We consist of Chinese, Malays, Indians and Eurasians. It doesn't mean that by singing the National Anthem in malay, means we speak malay in everyday life. Majority of Singaporeans (Including me) speaks English. Majulah Singapura!(Onward Singapore!)
