Riots which took place from September 11-12 2009 in Uganda's capital city were violently crushed by the army and miitary police, resulting in the deaths of a reported 27 people and nearly 900 arrests. Freedom of the press has been severely restricted in the aftermath of the violence. Uganda's western donors continue to support President Yoweri Museveni, who's been in power for 23 years.
