The State of Utah manages the bison herd on Antelope Island, the largest island in the Great Salt Lake. Antelope Island is also a state park. In the fall, riders on horseback help to drive the herd to the pens and corrals on the northern end of the island where they are checked and weighed by veterinarians. This years round up was on Halloween, and over 200 riders helped drive about 350 animals. The herd is maintained at 500 animals, and it usually grows to 700+ each year do to calving.
