JPMorgan Chase (JPM) said Friday that it is expanding its program to modify mortgages to try to avoid foreclosures on up to $70 billion in loans.
The loan-modification program will also be offered to customers with loans held by Washington Mutual and EMC. JPMorgan acquired Washington Mutual last month after the bank became the largest in the nation's history to fail. EMC was a mortgage unit of Bear Stearns, which JPMorgan acquired in February.

The modification program applies only to owner-occupied properties with mortgages owned by JPMorgan, Washington Mutual or EMC, with investor approval.

The program will include opening 24 regional counseling centers, hiring of 300 more loan counselors, new financing alternatives, reaching out to borrowers with pre-qualified modification terms and a new process to independently review each loan before it is moved into foreclosure.

Chase says the changes are expected to be implemented within 90 days, and until the changes are made, it will not put any loans into foreclosure.

GMAC treats their customers like crap. I had to straighten out some mistakes they made & their customer service personnel were horribly rude & incompetent. I've never seen anything like it. I've had the same fixed rate mortgage for 12-years. I wish GMAC would sell the loan so I could deal with someone more polite and willing to help. Indeed, you'd get more information and a politer response calling convicts at a prison. GMAC - greedy crooks. I'd rather have a mortgage with the italian mafia!

My mortgae was sold to CHINA, look up who owns Evermore mortgage, GMAC is selling the mortgages with Equity to THEM... makes you wonder why Chinese police are in the U.S to protect THEIR assets most likely its the HOMES (even the ones being made good on) because they know whats to economically befall America and then the policing is done by foreigners so theres no compassion

. Most of lack of regulation is because of a lot of bad PR that started back in 1965. It convinced the citizens. So when congress had a poll of the citizens wanted guess what. Homecomings sold my mortgage to GMAC, who recently told me that they can't take partial mortgage payments and SENT MY CHECK BACK TO ME!

I agree...Homecomings/GMAC is the worst. We tried to refinance...they told us it was approved....the week before, they decided it was not approved and we had to pay all the fees. First they told us that the fees would not be charged and then 3 weeks later they were extracted from our checking account. Liars!!!

Madoff is behind bars, why not put Greenspan, the ceos of all the lending institutions, FDIC, Federal Reserve, OTS, Tim Geitner, etc behind bars. They still have their home to go home to.
