As the carrots don't seem to work, it's time for the stick, or at least for "carrots-and-stick". The risk of a nuclear Iran (in a military sense) is simply to high. The Saudis would fear Iranian dominance and probably get their own bomb. Iran, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia are all full of radicals.
But you are right in that it would be very difficult to completely stop the program, it could be delayed at best. Either way, there is no easy way out.

If McCain becomes the next US President, does that mean he will invade us for attacking Georgia? But McCain is still better than Bush who allegedly thought the Taliban were a rock band before he got elected, and he is probably better than Obama who wants to sit down and talk to the Iranians to "stop" their nuclear program.

Interesting comment. Personally I feel there will be no fundamental difference in either administration and that we'll get the same future either way whether we elect a Demopublican or a Republicrat into office.
On the other hand, how would you go about attempting to get Iran to *stop* their nuclear program?
