I am not sure which "one" you mean. The "one" on the left by the thumb is the first Ones-digit.  The "one" on the left by 123 is the hundreds digit. Does that help?

Browsing around i found the following: "Digit refers to a specific place in a number. For instance the second digit of the number 174 is '7'. The third digit of 174 is '4' and this number 's first digit is '1'. " .
