Richard Dawkins is a British ethologist, evolutionary biologist and popular science author. He was formerly Professor for Public Understanding of Science at Oxford University. He was voted Britain's leading public intellectual by readers of Prospect magazine and was named one of Time Magazine's "100 Most Influential People" for 2007.

Dawkins came to prominence with his 1976 book "The Selfish Gene", which popularised the gene-centred view of evolution and introduced the term "meme". He is a prominent critic of creationism and intelligent design. In his 1986 book "The Blind Watchmaker", he argued against the watchmaker analogy, an argument for the existence of a supernatural creator based upon the complexity of living organisms. Instead, he described evolutionary processes as analogous to a blind watchmaker. He has since written several popular science books, and makes regular television and radio appearances, predominantly discussing these topics.

Richard Dawkins is an atheist, secular humanist, sceptic, scientific rationalist, and supporter of the Brights movement. In his 2006 book "The God Delusion", he contends that a supernatural creator almost certainly does not exist and that faith qualifies as a delusion − as a fixed false belief.

  • @santhankrishnannaray I think you can blame religion. Religion is founded on "faith" which is basically making a virtue out of turning off your brain and following some guy that claims religious authority. Many guys are evil and take advantage of this. Things go boom.

  • @santhankrishnannaray The fact you call it "Darwinism" pretty much shows where you are coming from. Are you a Newtonian because you believe in gravity? Calling it darwinism implies that scientists are followers of Darwin. This is false. Evolution stands on its own merits and Darwin is irrelevant to its legitimacy.

  • You don't seem to be getting it. I am not denying evolution as a fact. I said what I did because I have come across people with that opinion. I have tried telling them that Darwinism explains how things have happened and it is not a social ideology but they don't accept. Just because there islamic terrorists around, you cannot pronounce "Islam is evil". ( Dawkins has actually said this )Then you are as much a fundamentalist as the terrorists are.You are not willing to accomodate other beliefs.

  • @santhankrishnannaray Bullshit. What you are talking about is social darwinism. An ideology that has nothing to with evolution. And as for misrepresenting religion: There is no way to misrepresent religion. It is - other than evolution - all made up bullshit.

  • Because some idiots misinterpret religion and blow up people of other faiths, you can't fault the religion. Let's take evolution. In a nutshell it says "the fittest survive". What if someone thinks ". We have the power to destroy all other animals that may compete with us. So my principle is to kill them all." Forget the climatic implications. But this seems to be as logical a conclusion one can take from evolution as the one Dawkins suggests a religious person may take.

  • @misterbrianchen Furthermore, It was the catholic church who spread the lies about condoms in the first place, about how they are 'sinful' and 'morally wrong'. If they hadn't spread this bull shit around Africa/South America, tens - maybe hundreds - of millions of lives could have been spared from the HIV virus. Secondly, Dawkins couldn't just 'solve all' with donation or speech, don't be absurd! He's an extremely clever man, not magical.

  • @misterbrianchen Misbehaving is an horrific understatement for the atrocities committed, and it isn't merely a FEW e.g. Curdish stonings, catholic priests raping young boys, islamic apostasy punished by execution etc etc. Almost every world religion seems to revolve on fearing eternal torture and pain, which is an incredibly twisted way to live one's life.

  • @Jinglepify Try: /watch?v=YcYDkZcLAug
