There are approximately 550 abortions every day in the UK. In the US, the figure is 3,550. In these countries, the upper limit for abortion is usually 24 weeks.
However, due to increasingly sophisticated postnatal care, babies as young as 21 weeks have survived premature birth.
In mainland Europe, abortion is usually only allowed up to 12 weeks (18 weeks in Sweden, 21 weeks in the Netherlands).
The British Parliament recently voted on a bill to reduce the upper limit to 20 weeks. However, it was defeated by 332 votes to 190 and the upper limit remains at 24 weeks in the UK.
Medical Research has shown that when an 8 week old human foetus is pricked in the palm of his hand by a needle, he opens his mouth and pulls his hand away. There is also an increase in heart rate.
These findings strongly suggest that the 8 week old foetus can feel pain (Volman & Pearson, "What the Fetus Feels," British Med. Journal, Jan. 26, 1980, pp. 233-234).
And what of The Silent Scream? This is a real-time ultrasound movie of a 12- week suction abortion that is commercially available and is narrated by Dr. B. Nathanson, a former abortionist. This film dramatically - and factually - shows the unborn baby dodging the suction instrument time after time, while its heartbeat doubles in rate.
When finally caught, and its body is being dismembered, the baby's mouth clearly opens wide — hence, the title "The Silent Scream". This movie is available from Heritage House '76 at http:www.heritagehouse76.com.
Thankfully, the incidence of abortion has declined worldwide, as access to family planning education and contraceptive services has increased. Abortion incidence in the United States declined 8% from 1996 to 2003.
Abortion is a source of considerable debate, controversy, activism, passion and hostility. Positions on the ethical, moral, philosophical, biological, and legal issues on abortion vary widely between both women and men -- and from country to country.
However, the pro-life movement, which argues against access to abortion, usually provides the most powerful moral, religious and philosophical arguments. Pro-choice arguments, which give the women the right to kill her baby -- even where the foetus is healthy and there is no danger during delivery to the mother - tend to be shallow and self-centered. Pro-choice foetuses are usually aborted because the child would simply be a 'nuisance' to the mother.
The pro-life position argues that a human foetus is a human being with the right to live making abortion tantamount to murder. An interesting insight into the pro-life/pro-choice debate is provided by Dr Aleck Bourne, an abortionist who was quoted as saying, "I have never known a woman who, after her baby was born, was not overjoyed that I had not killed it"
Dr Cathy Sparks, another abortionist commented, "Even as early as 12 weeks a baby is totally formed. He has fingerprints, turns his head, fans his toes and feels pain."
Another former abortionist, Dr David Brewer, stated, "My heart got callous to the fact that I was a murderer - but that baby lying in a cold bowl educated me as to what abortion really was".

  • @Mutedvox You say a fetus cannot survive outside the mother's womb, but isn't that just like how a newborn baby cannot survive outside the care of it's mother? To say that something is not living because it can't survive on its own is absurd. And how could financial support change your mind on whether a fetus is alive?

  • @gwhpfan23537 a fetus is not a human being. it is not viable outside the womb. a mistake but a common mistake. it is the false argument for the justification for interfering in someone elses life. as I stated, it is the decision of the person. not you and not me. if you are willing to lend the financial support to that person to raise that baby until it's 18 then maybe I'll support your position.

  • @Mutedvox Its definitely not a one size fits all answer, but the act of intentionally killing another human being is never right, and yes abortion is murder. And even if a fetus wasn't alive, how could it be ok to kill it when it will eventually be born and become a living breathing human being?

  • @gwhpfan23537 there is not a "one size fits all" answer. every person's circumstances are different and as such deserve fair consideration when confronted with that kind of situation. but it is their decision, not mine, not yours. and most people don't arrive at that kind of decision cavalierly and without some kind of emotional weight.

  • @Mutedvox I am prolife meaning I care about all life- from conception to death-you mean to say that i don't care about people getting murdered on the streets? Its horrifying! Yet a baby in the womb is completely defenseless- someone on the streets has defenses- thats not to say that the gun death rate is nothing to worry about though.

  • Abortion is murder

  • Abortion is murder

  • interesting people scream about fetal rights and yet care very little after they are born. we have the highest gun death rate in the world for children. talk about hypocrisy!
