  • When iron dinosaurs ruled & roamed the country...a simpler time...and certainly better.

  • That is BULLSHIT...why the HELL would they cancel something on an engine so pretty :( Seriously...they couldnt of just held off on buying new engines for their yards for like 10 more years? lol I know its all a buisness and things must be cut...still...why the 1218? Why... :(

  • funny old guy

  • @hoolg NS never owned 1218. The parts sit in a boxcar awaiting the day they can be reinstalled. 611 is least likely to return due to her rigid frame. She is not flexible like 765 and 261. She cant take most curves on the railroad today.

  • I had the privilege of riding a train pulled by the 1218 on a round trip from Birmingham to Chattanooga...seems like it was 1990 or '91? About dusky-dark, that steam whistle sang all the way back to B'ham...music to my ears!

  • abandoned boxcars to the left

  • Sounds as though those passenger cars had several bearings in need of maintenance.

  • A great engine highballs through a great area!

  • I know nobody's replied to this for a while, but I live in Vincent, AL! I've never seen anything like that though man, i wish my father would have taken me on a trip like this.

  • 611 needs new flues
