Honduras: Cayos Cochinos

Positioned off the northern coast of Honduras, the small Caribbean archipelago of Cayos Cochinos beckons to scuba divers, snorkelers and nature-lovers alike. The islands and small coral cays form part of the world's second largest barrier reef system, and have been designated as a Marine Biological Reserve. In addition to exploring underwater, visitors can also immerse themselves in the Garifuna culture.

@Am3r1cab0y Wrong. Amazing country is you know where to go. You'll spend twice as much for half the vacation in Cancun. Cancun is crowded and has zero charm or character. It's a soulless cliche of a vacation spot.

What an excellent place to visit and enjoy in Honduras!!

I have been to the Cayo Chachahuate!! It was really beautiful and great to snorkel, filled with sea life.. Since there was low tide, I walked through the water on to the next Cayo!!

@Am3r1cab0y How insulting to call a country garbage. The two small communities especially East End is beautiful, private, quite and worth the visit. Untouched natural beauty. Visited Cayos almost a year ago and it was worth every second and penny spent there.

Honduras has unique natural beauty, the Bay Islands have the second largest Coral Reef in the world, after Australia's.The only are where the Sharkwhale remain the whole year,now a scientific study in the zone.The Bay Islands have white beaches, pristine clear water, 94% of the fish in the the world lives around, Italians fly every week to visit from Italy.Here you meet the most beatiful nature, this is not plastic tourism,but REAL unspoiled world, and leave it clean, Orgullo de Honduras!!

I was there a few years ago. Beautiful place. The reefs were great, the main island quite beautiful. The lunch on the garifuna island was killer. Fresh fish and rice, very well done. Btw, there are some lovely spots on Utila if you go off the path a bit. Roatan is fun, but gets a bit busy.

Cayos Cochinos is an amazing place we were the June 2010, snorkled and ate with the locals on their island. While we were snorkling, the locals went out and got our lunch fresh fish, and local sides. Amazing small island.

I'm not sure why the comment above is talking about Cancun...Cayos Cochinos is very private, and very few people were on these islands. Less than 15 people that we saw the whole day, even at lunch we ate with a local kitchen, and we were the only visitors on the island.
