I shot this in my driveway in 1984. This bike is modified with hotter cams, flowed head, overbored cylinders, high compression pistons and a handmade exhaust by Dave Rash of D& D Enterprises. This is the 180 degree crankshaft engine (2 up, 1 down)and has a very cool & lumpy idle. Note how revving the engine moves so much lower-end mass that the bike rocks back & forth despite it's relatively huge size! I weighed 130 lbs when I used to fly around on this thing. Those were the days... :-)

  • back in the day my mate and i had matching jotas and used to hang around westgate road newcastle on a saturday . a kid on a fse1 was going backward and forwards in front of us then stops and says to my mate , " thats a jota , i here they have a vibration problem at 70 mph , what do you do about it ?" my mate looked at him and said " i change it out of first gear , now fuck off !" sums up the jota so well ! lol good riding mate your a lucky man .

  • @dave2806 Love it, great story, cheers!

  • I thought Jotas were UK only machines, modified from standard 3Cs by Slater bros?

  • @SvenTviking No, they were later sold in the US as well, with the same changes done by Slater Bros, but performed at the factory,

  • having trouble idling hands free?

  • @alanbstard4 Nope, idled fine, just like the noise.

  • Unusual engine sound with the 180° crankshaft...Sounds just like an inline-4 with a fouled sparkplug!! I'm told Laverda went to a 120° crankshaft in 1982 or thereabouts?

  • Few engines in this world, sounds better than the 180 triple Laverda 1000

  • lucky bloke , miss my jota
