What if GLaDOS ran on a NES console? This is how it would sound.

This is a NES cover which uses the Famicom Disk System (FDS) sound channel to simulate GLaDOS's voice (though mainly only vowels). The FDS sound channel, an Japan-exclusive hardware addition for Famicom Disk System games, allows musicians to draw their own waveforms and thus can be used to simulate voices to some degree.

  • I have to say that this is one of the most impressive things I've ever seen with Famitracker. Not because the music was spot on, but I'm more bewildered at how you managed to emulate SINGING. That must've taken quite a bit to work out, so I have to say... Kudos.

  • @PhoenixRage07 Thanks a lot, hahah. It did take quite a while to figure it all out. This was inspired by a FDS remix of Daisuke from Beatmania IIDX 10th Style that I heard long ago, which used emulated vocals in the same way.

  • holy crap, I always wanted to know how to make custom waveforms that sounded like voice, could you help me how to do it?

  • @NewAgeRetroGamer Also, I limited myself to recreating the sounds of the Japanese vowels: A I U E O... and N as well.

  • @flashygoodness I've been tinkering with the waveforms, but I can't manage to make speech-sounding instruments.

Could you send me the FDS instruments to me, please? I'd appreciate a lot if you did c:

  • @NewAgeRetroGamer Gotcha. I'll get those to you when I have some time, just remind me later! And credit would be nice if you used those waveforms.

  • out of beta and releasing on time does not sound like valve

  • Nice notes you made for GLaDOS's voice.

  • Okay. This I can respect. I do what I can without formal tracking tools, but that makes DMC a real pain, and limits arpeggiation to special occasions. Awesome work :D

  • 2 people aren't GlaD

  • @flashygoodness thanks! I'll be waiting for them eagerly!

  • This was a triumph.
