This is my piano version of an old song...
It first became a hit with the voice of Mary Hopkin in 1968. Many singers have later recorded their versions. For facts related to the song go http://www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=1893 and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Those_Were_the_Days_(song)
My version is on the same tone as a version I heard from Mary Hopkin, but I have duplicated the verses and I thought that this made it sound better on the piano. The song itself is quite nostalgic, talking about a company that used to spend happy times together in an old tavern, but then they split for many years.
When the singer goes back to the place they used to be, everything feels different without the old friends and she thinks that she misses them, but then the friends start appearing in the same old tavern and she realises that no matter how many years have gone by, the hearts of her friends have stayed the same...
This is a song I would like to dedicate to all companies who used to "raise a glass or two" together, but time made them split, with the wish to get back together sometime and find out the same thing this song is saying: that the hearts of people stay the same...
Hope you enjoy it, as always your comments are appreciated...

  • That's certainly the most beautiful piano version I've heard so far. So depressing and uplifting at the same time.

  • Thanks littlefriend1994, I was in that kind of mood at the time I recorded it and depressing and uplifting was exactly the feeling I wanted to add to this song... It's nice knowing that this is what gets through to people listening to it...

  • Lovely, great emotion in the playing, thank you for sharing your music..

  • Thank you richpat, I'm happy that you liked it...
