Please take this anonymous, critically important survey now at http://on.fb.me/tw6n7V.

A number of veterans have recently made comments to DAV on Facebook and through other venues concerning problems accessing VA mental health care services.

VA reports that 2.1 million individual veterans have been provided mental health services in its system of care in the last 5 years, and more than 7,500 VA mental health specialists (psychiatrists, psychologists and social workers) have been hired since 2005. VA now employs about 21,000 mental health specialists who are dispersed among 153 VA medical centers, over 800 community-based outpatient clinics (CBOCs) and nearly 300 Vet Centers across the country. VA has also deployed specialized services for treatment of post-traumatic stress (PTS); post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD); traumatic brain injury (TBI); substance-use disorders and other combat and military-related mental health problems that challenge some of our military personnel and veterans.

Despite the recent efforts from VA, we unfortunately continue to hear reports from veterans on the difficulty of getting mental health appointments even though VA's official policy requires a veteran to be seen within 24 hours of a crisis for intervention, and mental health specialty visits to be scheduled within 14 days of an identified need.

Please help DAV better understand the challenges and gaps in care that you are facing which prevent or delay access to VA mental health services. By completing the survey below we can learn from your experience and better advocate for your needs. All information will remain anonymous (we don't ask for your name); however, we plan on sharing an analysis of the responses with VA officials and with the House and Senate Veterans Affairs Committees in Congress.

We look forward to hearing from you!
