Hi folks,

this video shows my own build Iso-Recording-Cab for home recordings. I'm using a Behringer V-Amp Pro but I wanted the sound to become more natural. Because I'm recording my stuff in the cellar of my flat I guess the neighbours will kill me if I would record my guitar at full power.
Buying was not possible because I couldn't spend 900 EUR for this cab. In fact I paid about 250 EUR now. The most expensive thing was the foam with 120 EUR! The speaker is a Celestion G 12 100 W.
The sound is recorded with a Shure Beta 57A.
I plug my guitar in the Behringer V-AMP which is connected with the tiny VOX amp which is about 25 years old. I had to rebuild it because the look of the case was crappy. I use both inputs of the VOX for
having the full sound of this 15 W power Amp! The SHURE Beta 57A is plugged into a Behringer Ultragain Pro Mic 2000.

So please listen to the sound with and without the lid...

If you want some more details of the cab, just contact me...

Cheers,
Tom

Dimensions (cm):
L 53,5 W 53,5 H total 91,0 (lid = 39,0; speaker 52,0)
And quite heavy! Believe me, the foam inside is heavy, it's not the wood at all. The cab's weight is about 50 Kg. I couldn't measure exactly. The lid is about 19 Kg, the bottom around 28 !
(But it's worth it!) ;)

  • what's in between the foam and the mdf?

  • @pedromiles101

It's two types of foam glued together and glued to the mdf. Have a look at my second video

    "youtube.com/watch?v=vPQWc4o2UJ0" showing some more details.

    Cheers,

    Tom

  • brilliant build quality! what thickness wood do you use ?

  • @SGwizard1

    thanx!

The thickness of the MDF is 20 mm / 0,79 inch. There are more details in my second video for the cab.

    Cheers,

    Tom

  • GREAT demo of REDUCING sound, but how does it sound MIC'd or RECORDED?

  • @boagley1

Just have a look at my video "IsoCab_2" where you can hear some examples of the recorded box. Meanwhile I use a different type of recording procedure by recording it three times in one step.

One channel with the pure sound, one with a bit of room (left panned) and one with a bit of chorus (right panned). Hell of a sound (inspired by Tommy Denander, which I met in Hannover at a music store)!

  • This is fantastic! Definitely one of the best builds and sound references Ive seen on Youtube. Your box really does a great job of trapping the sound and keeping all the noise inside....Im going to be building my box with material thats similar to what youve used if I can find it.

  • @SerratedAMG

My neighbours! But it's just a fake. They never called me 'cause of playing guitar...

    Cheers,

    Tom
