"Cuts Hurt" song by the Angry Tired Teachers, a rock band of educators from Hayward, California.

The Angry Tired Teachers have been performing this anthem against the proposed budget cuts affecting our public schools at various fund raisers and rallies throughout California as part of their "Cuts Hurt/Budgetwelooza Tour."

It is important that any budget cuts that need to be made stay as far from classroom programs as possible. Class Size Reduction, Elementary Instrumental Music and the High School Block schedule are currently being considered for cuts at Hayward Unified School District (HUSD).

Elimination of the High School Block System with give students the choice of only six classes per year instead of eight classes. Limiting the classes will eliminate many of the elective classes students enjoy such as music and art. Many students attend Hayward high schools because of the strong art and music programs.

Elimination of Elementary Instrumental Music program will deny students the opportunity to experience music which has been proven to help students to learn in other subjects. The early development programs are essential to strong music programs in middle and high school.

Please contact the HUSD Board of Education to let them know you support the Block Schedule and the Elementary Music Program.

"Cuts Hurt" is a remake of the rock classic "Love Hurts" written and composed by Boudleaux Bryant and Felice Bryant.

New lyrics and arrangement by Andrew Kong Knight of the Angry Tired Teachers.

CUTS HURT ~ LYRICS:

Verse:

Cuts hurt, cut scar, cuts wound and harm
Any school not tough or strong enough, to take a lot
of pain, of jobs getting lost
Kids future getting tossed, Oh what a cost

Chorus:

Cuts hurt
Oo, Oo cuts hurt, Oo, Oo cuts hurt

Verse 2:

I'm young, I know, but even so, I know a thing
or two that I've learned from my teachers
I've really learned a lot, they really taught me a lot
Cuts are so lame, they have to be stopped!

Bridge:

Some schools dream of happiness,
wealthiness, togetherness
Some states support their schools I guess
while our schools get left behind

Solo & Verse 1:

To take a lot of pain, of jobs getting lost
Kids future getting tossed, Oh what a cost

Chorus:

Cuts hurt
Oo, Oo cuts hurt, Oo, Oo cuts hurt

  • Where can I find itemized details about Hayward's budget plan for the coming year? For example, "We plan to spend $__ quarterly on __, $__ monthly on __, $__ weekly on __?... Fees? Pools? Libraries? Pensions? Services?" I'd like to see what results in a Multi-Million dollar shortfall. My husband and I made a facebook app for helping people with budgeting. I'd like to see if I can use it for the Hayward budget.

  • @sporalyze

Please let us know. The leader/singer of the Angry Tired Teachers, Andrew Kong Knight received a pink slip this year after 15 years of teaching art!

  • Ticks4 make us proud. Study really hard and become a teacher so you can give others what you wanted and lacked.

One way to go through life is to blame others, which is negative, another way is to do some positive that will make change for the better for everyone.

  • Maybe if Ticks4 would have had better education if teachers were better paid and respected.

  • Imagine less than 3% of the population of CA paying for almost 100% of tuition of the engineering and science majors of UC schools! Majors that are critical to leading CA out of this recession. Not only do Asians pay billions of dollars to UC schools in tuition, but also when we graduate we pay billions more in taxes when we get high tech jobs. Now CA wants to increase our taxes!!! And for what? for more illegals, more jails? more prison guards?

  • I had HORRIBLE and TENURED California public "teachers". They gave me a VERY POOR EDUCATION!

  • @astoria3011 if the US was as ethnically one-tone, believe you wouldnt be hearing such an outrage

  • It's really disgusting the way our own government is denying the education of these individuals. We have to get rid of the bureaucracy by ending NoChild Left Behind, pull out of what are in fact illegal wars in effect saving us billions of dollars every year, and assign equal distribution of the funds to all our schools nationwide. Then we'll see improvement.

  • @kanesloane IT DOESNT TAKE ROCKET SCIENTISTS TO FIGURE OUT IF TEACHERS RAN FOR OFFICES AND WON THERE WOULD BE LESS CUTS...LETS SAY THE OFFICE OF "YOU NAME IT"

THREE TEACHERS (ONE IN EACH PARTY) FILE TO RUN FOR THE OFFICE...ALL TEACHERS HELP WITH THE FEES AND THE CAMPAIGN. GUESS WHAT WE WOULD HAVE A GOVT OF THE TEACHERS BY THE TEACHERS FOR THE TEACHERS.SO GET CRACKING GUYS (GOOD LYRICS)

  • @UCSDEngineerDoctor Finally, someone with a brain on Youtube!

Wake up liberals. This is going in a downward spiral and will not change until you wake up and realize this is 2010. No more pensions for God's sake! I would like one as well, but that is not reality. This is not 1940. Take care of yourselves for once. Be a decent example for your students. If you are not good enough, get a new job!

  • There is no money. What don't you understand?

Get rid of the illegals, put all teachers on a merit evaluation program, fire the bottom 20%+ each year, & eliminate pensions.

THAT is how to save money!

Don't like it? Tough. Welcome to the real world. Pensions my ass - absolutely ridiculous. We can't afford this crap~!

  • @MisterClean121 THE ILLEGALS ARE THE REAL US CITIZENS. THEY COME TO THIS COUNTRY AND DONT PAY TAXES, GET FREE HEALTH CARE, AND STEAL OUR JOBS THEY HAVE IT EASY

  • THEY CUT CUT CUT IN EVERYTHING BUT THE OIL WAR.

  • Yeah I blame it on your racists stupid fiscal ignorance. Your UNIONS lying to the TAX payers of CA by catering to ILLEGALS so you can hire more teachers so you can suck more TAX revenue for your dues - while at the same time put in jeopardy the millions of tax paying citizens and their kids. TAXES that drove businesses out of California, so that now no college graduate can find a job. UNIONS of teachers, cops, jail guards. These are not the kind of jobs that will lead us out of this recession!!!

  • You are right, I am turning it to a racial issue, because Asian families are being TAXED to death. Taxed for your stupid Teachers UNION policies of catering to illegals so you can just get more dues. Catering to illegals that do not even pay TAXES but waste it by having 5 or 6 anchor babies - the teachers, nurses, & welfare, (Latino LA Unified graduation rate is abysmal), the cops, jails, guards, judges, BILLIONS of dollars down the drain!!! Not to mention all their pensions, CA is BROKE!!!

  • @UCSDEngineerDoctor All the students and teachers suffer from budget cuts. You are turning it into a racial issue
