Effective Performance of Virtual Workers: The Self-Organizing Factors The purpose of this empirical study was to determine whether the hypotheses of self-organizing factors of goals, empowerment, and communication and their interactions produced effective performance in people in the context of virtual work. The results of a survey with 113 virtual workers from an International Technology Company found that these hypotheses relating to goals setting, dispersed empowerment, and harmonious communication can indeed enhance effective performance in virtual workers, showing strong empirical support.
