Rolling is an important and often confusing technique that I'll explain in this lesson. More notes about it on the web site...

TE = Technique area of site

Taught by Justin Sandercoe.

Full support at the justinguitar web site where you will find hundreds of lessons on a wide range of subjects, and all the scales and chords that you will ever need! There is a great forum too to get help, no matter what the problem.

And it is all totally free, no bull. No sample lessons, no memberships, no free ebook. Just tons of great lessons :)

To get help with this lesson (and for further info and tabs), find the Lesson ID in the video title (like ST-667 or whatever) and then look it up on the Lesson Index page of justinguitar.com

Have fun :)

  • been trying to understand this technique you explain it so simply ~i finally got it!

  • if you can do this you can play black dog

  • yes its a good one. im trying now. got problem with flying finger though,, but i started 3 days. thanks a lot dude

  • most of the time when i roll, i use the side my finger. Is that ok or do i need to get out of that habit?

  • Hey, do you know any techniques for metal-style soloing? I like that fretboard, by the way.

  • @theiNde Yeh. Concerning your first question. I am trying to do a roll on a power chord. For example, in the chorus riff for The Trooper by Ironmaiden you must roll a power chord.

  • @collin292 Barre with distortion is possible but make sure you hold it down with enough pressure. You can also palm mute it, but again don't know which riff it is. I know the song very well though ;) Good luck anyways.

  • @NewMetallica I cant barre it coz its on distortion and sounds crap, but i think i found

a way to do it, its just really twists my hand up.

The live shows dont really help me

  • @collin292 I do not know exactly which riff you mean but if you have the simular fret lower or higher on an other string you can bar it. If you have to play an open string in between this ofcourse isn't a proper option. You can then always find a way to put a finger on the fret below or above. Again please take notice that a lot of Guns N Roses songs use just simple chords but Slashes picking is really hard to follow for beginners. Don't know what lvl guitarplayer you are but hope this helps.

  • Im learning Estranged by Guns, in one of the riffs you have to go down 3 strings.

Help? Its REALLY pissing me off......
