http://www.ted.com On any given day we're lied to from 10 to 200 times, and the clues to detect those lie can be subtle and counter-intuitive. Pamela Meyer, author of Liespotting, shows the manners and "hotspots" used by those trained to recognize deception -- and she argues honesty is a value worth preserving.

TEDTalks is a daily video podcast of the best talks and performances from the TED Conference, where the world's leading thinkers and doers give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes. Featured speakers have included Al Gore on climate change, Philippe Starck on design, Jill Bolte Taylor on observing her own stroke, Nicholas Negroponte on One Laptop per Child, Jane Goodall on chimpanzees, Bill Gates on malaria and mosquitoes, Pattie Maes on the "Sixth Sense" wearable tech, and "Lost" producer JJ Abrams on the allure of mystery. TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design, and TEDTalks cover these topics as well as science, business, development and the arts. Closed captions and translated subtitles in a variety of languages are now available on TED.com, at http://www.ted.com/translate.

Everybody "lies", I don't care who you are.

The only lies that really matter are the ones that

screw you out of money, opportunity, etc.

If you constantly say "what you think", you won't be

    a very popular person.

If you constantly want to "be liked", keep lying.

I love Youtube. It's the place where everyday ordinary people behind a laptop give themselves a PhD in science for a moment in time to obliterate or seem like they know more than the person with the ACTUAL PhD. Get off your high horse; If you dont agree with her, get your own degrees, do your own research for decades, then you'll have a valid point people should listen to guys.

Nobody cares who you are either.

Popularity is for politicians and then businesspeople - both of which serve everyone - otherwise it is for the meek and the weak. Agreeing with everyone and obeying the petty house rules (not to be mistaken for the law) does not make you constantly liked or very popular either.

Crap this sounds like the Nice Guy quiet extortion types most girls with dignity hate alot.

I am bothered by these "signs" of a lier, because I used to have severe social anxiety and because of an abusive childhood I have severe guilt issues. Anytime any one was asking "who done it" I immediately felt terrible guilty even though I wasn't the one at fault and was sometimes thought to be a lier or guilty when I wasn't. Don't go judging everyone you meet because they have certain body language or whatever.

I'm curious about the types of people who are not very emotionally expressive, especially when faced with extreme situations, where they are naturally just more collected. There are people out there like this... do people think they're being deceptive because they are not as emotional as a normal person?

I was refering to women's biology, not character. Humans are a bit unique among mammals in that the male is clueless to her ovulation- hence a need to remain near and not just show up when signs of her ovulation are evident. It helped babies survive. I found MrNveretrustahoe so mean and perhaps not understanding female nature and confusing it with lack of character.
