Can't help but laugh at the Aussie comments on here. "It's just like Gaelic Football" - any excuse.
It's like in the rugby World Cup, we beat your asses, and you claimed we cheated. Is there nothing you won't cry over if you lose at it? Seriously, lose at rugby "it's cheating", lose at International Rules - rules set by the GAA and AFL Commission - and it's "too much like Gaelic Football."
@hawky124 yeh look what happened oz lost by 4 points in a game that is basically the same as gaa and from memory oz won 2-0 last year,if ireland played oz in a game more like AFL it would be a no contest thats why they made it more like gaa
it's funny the comments made by everyone which are obviously ill-informed. Yes I admit the Irish play in an amateur league. However, the game is almost gaelic football or more inclined towards it compared to Australian rules footy. There is a round ball, rectangle oval, soccer goals, no bumping, hardly any tackling and many other rules which make it nothing like aussie rules and everything like gaelic footy.
@omgitslukky07 Mate, I have 3 recent O'Neills balls: they weigh 488 g, 498 g, and 504 g respectively. I know this because I weighed them tonight: I'm a soccer player and I was wondering 'what the fcuk?' when I was hitting them so poorly. I also have an old O'Neills from about 10 years ago that I can hit sweetly, this weighed in at 472 g. The officially described weights (and youve quoted them correctly) are wrong. The balls were dry and properly pumped. They're like medicine balls!
I just realised this sport existed, I think its fuckin brilliant, to me you get the best of both styles of football, in a great hybrid, I hope this sport really makes it and becomes big.
@Jasexxxxx You probably don't care but I came across an article that mentions Irish players using an oval ball. Youtube won't let me post a link, but if you type 'World footy news international rules a surprisingly long history' you'll find it. I dunno how credible the site is 'cos I saw some errors myself - but it tallys with what I read before. Meath won every game on that tour so they obviously adapted pretty well, though their opponenets would have been amateur too.

no ofence guys but this looks like a caveman sport. they handle, they kick, its utter chaos. i'd prefer aussie rules or soccer. less complicated.

Out of interest, if all players can use their hands, then what's so special about the goalie?
