Well I'm only a dogsbody, setting up gear and collecting tickets or whatever. But, I work in a venue with a 150 capacity in a town where a good local band doing their own material will draw about 20 to 50 bodies. The Rods usually go somewhere between 120 and sell out. Generally its repeat business because people know what they will get. Another local band worth a look are Soliss (look at their page on Myspace).
They were great in May, I can't wait until theyre back in November!

Of course they aren't the same band as they were in the seventies, thank christ!
I get to work with the band about twice a year, and they are one of the best received live bands at our venue. The clip does them no favours, they are superb live and I can't wait until they come back in May.
