Evan James Taylor was a outstanding Track & Field athlete. He passed away just before the 2000 USATF Junior Olympic National Track & Field Championships in Buffalo, NY. He ran 400m and Long Jump. His best time was 58.9 in 400m and 19'-8.5" in the long jump. (He was 11 years old and I was his father, friend, and coach at St. Mark) We lost him a week before the meet in a drowning accident.
I was selected to carry the torch in Evans memory in the 2002 Winter Olympics. Theresa and I started a 501-c-3 not for profit kids track & Field Team called Evan's Indianapolis Angels T&F Club. USA Track and Field provided Olympic uniforms for all my kids the following year. They were the left over uniforms from the 96 olympics. Not copies, all the left over uniforms. The kids wore the uniform proudly! Evan is still with us in spirit and on the track!
