A tribute to Charles Darwin FRS, celebrating the 150th anniversary of the publishing of On the Origin of Species, November 24, 2009.
Having read Origin earlier this year (in time for Darwin's 200th birthday on Feb 12), I feel it fitting to celebrate this marvelous work. His grand insights, though updated as our technology and understanding have progressed, have become an inseparable part of our understanding of so many fields of human endeavour.
Featuring photos related to his voyage on the Beagle, of animals endemic to the Galapagos, and various others that are relevant to Darwin's life and the narrative he gave us in Origins.
Voiced by Richard Dawkins FRS, from his magnificent reading of the last few beautifully-written paragraphs of On the Origin of Species.
(Forgive the repurposing if you've seen this already; didn't have time to make another, and this one is great anyway :-)

Sounds good, but missing science of (GMO) modified foods, and animal cloning and genetic manipulation. Today 2009 many organisms are created by man, and not evolution. Hundreds of Videos on this subject found right here on YouTube. If Richard knows this, why would he be trying to convince us otherwise?

1. The video isn't really about GM foods, animal cloning, or genetic manipulation. It sort of predates that...
2. Organisms have not yet been created by man, but stick around another decade or so.
3. Richard is reading "Origin" verbatim, a 150 y.o. text, for its literary and (dated) scientific perspective and relevance.

Magnificent. Thanks for showing that "Origin" has as much awe and wonder, beauty and poetry, as any rendition of the Book of Genesis. And it has one more thing: the power of truth. Happy Birthday, Charles!

Indeed, when you take the time to learn and understand reality, you will find that it is far more compelling, peculiar and awe-inspiring than any bronze-age mythology, even more so when you realize that you are an active participant.
It's a beautiful cosmos, and the possibilities are limitless.
