This is the only high-quality version I've heard of this jam, out of several - including falsely titled ones. It's also the best part (being just before the Driving South section).

Why John only took an acoustic guitar (with pickup) to the 'gig' in anyone's guess - I'm sure he had others at the time. Although he couldn't have used one of Jimi's, without re-stringing it first.

Which reminds me - I've finally bought a proper Fender Stratocaster (white, left-handed), after years of owning copies and Strat-style guitars (with all the others). Look forward to hearing it, when I get around to making some new recordings.

  • @NorrinRaddsurf Jimi went on tour with the Monkees as the first act for a while.

  • Jimi would love to play with other great talent. He played bass in NYC just to hear Leslie West more after being at a concert. He called Jack Cassady to the stage to do Killing Floor. Jammed with Cream. Played with Buchanan. McLaughlin to a lesser degree, but his sessions with Paco and Al amazing. Saw McLaughlin at the Capitol Theater in NJ, was pleasantly surprised to hear the first act about to release their first album Lynyrd Skynyrd.

  • @ConansGuitar Did you forget 'Escalator Over The Hill' ? Jack Bruce with McLaugho and backdrop of American World Bley Lyric drama ?

  • McLaughlin and Jimi Hendrix ... together .... finally, there may be a god somewhere above

  • @misterfrunobulax its a bit jammy for my likings lol. Sounds like what we always end up playing at house parties, sans the genius.

  • why all that fuss...just a slightly boring jam

  • @appleministries B U E N I S I M O...

  • McLaughlin was doing far more than this. He -- along with the Yardbirds (Heart Full of Soul), the Beatles (Norwegian Wood), the Byrds (Eight Miles High) and then the Rolling Stones (Paint It Black) -- began the raga-rock fusion movement. In 1967, Brian Jones played sitar on "My Little One" with Jimi Hendrix.

Bands as diverse as the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Elton John, The Monkees, Moody Blues, Donovan, Richie Havens, and Stevie Wonder all contributed.

It's still going today, esp in the UK

  • @misterfrunobulax ditto

  • JIMI WOULD HAVE SURPASSED JM IN TIME--JUST NEEDED TO JAM WITH JEAN LUC PONTY AND BILLY COBHAM ETC EXPAND HIS VOCAB A LITTLE--HE WAS GETTING JAZZIER NEAR THE END--WHAT A WASTE! PLUS MCLAUGHLIN COULDN'T PLAY WITH HIS TEETH LOL!!!
