Hammer horror actress Ingrid Pitt dies aged 73.
Hammer horror actress Ingrid Pitt, best known for starring in cult classics such as Countess Dracula, has died at the age of 73.
The Polish-born star died at a hospital in south London after collapsing a few days ago.
She was regarded by many fans as the queen of Hammer horror films.
The star's death comes weeks after film-maker Roy Ward Baker, who directed Pitt in The Vampire Lovers, died at the age of 93.
Pitt's daughter Stephanie Blake told the BBC News website that her mother's death had come as a "huge surprise".
After the actress collapsed recently, doctors had told her was she suffering from heart failure.
"She could be incredibly generous, loving, and she'll be sorely missed,"
Ingrid was the quitessential vampire. One would really embrace damnation if the agents therreof were as seductive as she was. it was shocking to hear about her death. Especially so because i had interesting correspondence with her recently which included a poem of mine on her which pleased her immensely I dare say as she wrote to me.

Jesus...I just typed her name into Google, & up came her her death, & I'm like WTF?!
Being an old Hammer film nut, I am deeply saddened, she was (always will be) a beautiful woman, she certainly left her mark, & she will be missed.
Long live Hammer Films.....RIP: Ingrid

I am very saddened by the passing of the lovely Ms. Pitt. I adored her in Countess Dracula and was enraptured by her in The Vampire Lovers. A true icon amongst horror film fans, she will be missed but will live on in the hearts of those who love the macabre. R.I.P my dear.
