The extreme versatility of the Sonica ultrasonic cleaning machines means, moreover, that they can be used to greatest effect in the medical and surgical sector, as is demonstrated by the testimony of Silla Cavaliere, operating room nurse at the Narcodont dental centre in Milan.
For the safety of patients and staff we have implemented a complete cycle of sterilisation of surgical instruments. I put the instruments into the virucidal and bactericidal solution that decontaminates and performs a pre-disinfection of surgical instruments. After the decontamination phase that lasts twenty minutes, I take the basket out and submerge it directly in the ultrasonic tank where it undergoes cleaning. The ultrasonic machine cleaning of surgical instruments in a disinfectant liquid properly diluted ensures that we have instruments that are completely decontaminated and free of any organic solutions. Generally, in order to get the surgical instruments perfectly clean we leave them in the tank for about ten minutes. The sound waves manage to do that micro-cleaning that it would be very hard for us to do ourselves manually.
After the ultrasonic cleaning cycle is completed, we remove the basket and take it directly to the sink and run it under cold water to remove any trace of detergent. Once this is finished, the instrument is perfectly decontaminated, cleaned and rinsed.
This is the second last phase where the instrument is perfectly dried and checked through visual inspection. After the visual check, the instrument, if appropriate, is then put in an envelope and sealed and then it is ready for the final phase which is sterilisation in an autoclave. Now the instruments are ready to be used again..
