DTHC fees as noted, are for the unloading of the unit off the vessel and terminal. These fees are paid directly to the port agent at the terminal of discharge.
- Duties: Regarding any applicable duties there may or may not be, depending on your situation and the place your are shipping your unit to. As the shipper, you are advised to either check beforehand with the Embassy or Consulate of the country you are shipping to, or to find a Customs Broker at the port of discharge. Sefco can also provide you with customs broker and terminal agent details beforehand, provided the unit is booked cargo.
- Customs Examinations can happen, and are done on a random basis and can vary from port to port.
There are typically 2 types of examinations for US imports. VACIS which is an X-Ray exam of the unit, and PE which is physical examination of the unit. The cost for any customs examination remains for the account of the consignee/importer.
