Swans were an influential American rock, experimental and post-industrial band active from 1982 to 1997, led by singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Michael Gira.

Swans were one of the few groups to emerge from the New York No Wave scene intact. The band was formed in 1982 by Michael Gira, and employed a shifting lineup of musicians until their dissolution in 1997. Besides Gira, the only other semi-constant members were keyboardist/vocalist Jarboe, and, to an extent, guitarist Norman Westberg.

  • The piano at 2:47 is so beautiful and full of hope. This is what always struck me about SWANS songs: beauty and despair mixed so closely they are indistinguishable - or perhaps they are the same.

  • swans always gets me back on track after a bout of selfpity :))))

  • Happy valentine's day everyone!

  • Love hasn't saved me yet :(

  • I loveeeeeeeeeeee him!!!! great brand, :) thanks for the lyrics!

  • why is this song the most truthful thing i have ever heard but the most devastating?!

  • @CaveSoundMeister Absolutely. Thank you.

  • @mstrschld ok. it was nice exchanging views with you.

  • @CaveSoundMeister Okay, very good. Let's just leave it at that. I don't want to get in the way of anybody's pleasure. And I'll think about you way of seeing things. It's your way. Have a good one.

  • @mstrschld look at god damn the sun, the lyrics are indeed the triumph of self-pity, but tha music hits very smooth and chill-out kind of tones, even happy sometimes, in major key, and that's the contrast and paradox seen in many swans tracks.

  • @mstrschld i read the lyrics of "miracle" as an expression of awe, that in spite of all the horrors that are connected with and that undermine love, it still exists. "god said to no one to do what he did" concers i think ultimate forgiveness and grace that was him dying on the cross, it is mentioned earlier in "and we'll never forgive". I think the philosophy of Swans lyrics thrives on irony, paradox and pushing stuff to grotesque extreme that it undermines itself.
