  • I'm pretty sure this was written and performed to pay tribute to the late Florence Mills. Duke Ellington even wrote "Black Beauty" for her after she died.

  • 凄い映像!奇跡!財産!・・BLACK AND FANTASY by ELLINGTON

  • This is pure genius.

  • This film was a two-reeler released in October 1929. The soundtrack is now thought to have been recorded in mid-August and was recorded at RCA's Gramercy Studios in New York. Heroine Fredi Washington later married future Ellington trombonist Lawrence Brown. The mourning singers are the well-known Hall Johnson Choir. The music was later released on the Anthologie du Jazz label.

  • That is without a doubt Tricky Sam Nanton on Trombone and Barney Bigard on clarinet. The background chorus is a total scream, Duke fighting back tears at the end -- what a blast!

  • WOW!

  • Awesome Vintage Duke Ellington! I LOVE IT!
