The biggest kicker is that if/when the Islanders go into or far into the playoffs and maybe go for the Cup, Ryan's worth will be 5.5-6.5 million over 5+ yrs. Tanguay is getting 5.25ish mill a yr. The Oilers brass have screwed themselves and the fans. If the Oiler brass want fans in the seats next year they best get Ryan back. It'll cost more July 1st than it did now.

Wow... when Websters issues their 07 Dictionary they should have a picture of Ryan next to the definitions for Heart & Loyalty. This guy must have had better offers but he chose to stay loyal and the Oiler brass does this to him? This is warped on a grand scale. Lowe and the rest of the Oiler brass should hang their collective heads in shame. You don't treat an employee like this after what? 12 yrs? You don't treat a new employee like this.

Makes no sense arguing about who is greedy. Both the club and Smyth have made fools of themselves. On one hand you can say that Smyth has more than enough already and 5,4 million is not far from what he demanded. On the other hand you should think that the club would stretch to keep their most prized asset, and reward the few players who actually cares about their teams and commits themselves.

It was obvious that he was gonna be traded. Look at the Oilers history- they traded Wayne Gretzky, lost Messier, Lost Grant Fuhr, Pronger, Peca etc... their General Managing is the worst in the NHL!. they suck
And Ryan Smyth will not resign with the Oilers next year because they cant afford him and the NYI will because they can. Ryan Smyth wasnt greedy, the Oilers just fking suck.
