They probably blew it up as more of a TV stunt than actual necessity. If they do not slice the rotting whale open then it will explode on it's own from the gasses being built up. No need to cause so much property damage when a quick slice will do the trick and let the air escape.

dead whale? i said in the first commet that its sad that it got blown up and that i dint see the whole video. i thought the whale was a live and stuck on the beach and hey didnt wanna save it.

Uh, how do you rescue a dead whale? Last thing we need is zombie whales roaming the ocean. If they would have tried rescuing the said dead whale, it would have been shark bait, and you'd be screaming about it. Had they known exactly what to do, ie more explosives and everybody a mile away, it would have been a perfect solution and would have solved many problems from a dead, decaying whale. And, sure animals have feelings, but not when they're dead, and it's not like it's a human being blown up!

whats its a ANIMAL supposed to mean. yah it is a animal it has feelings to yah know!? and go ahead plz list all the proublems it solved. yah they ouldve trried to rescue it but did they? no. isnt that sad. im sure they couldve found a way. and why would they feed it to the sharks...the sharks cant go on the beach so if they put the whale in the ocean might as welll leave it there right and let it live right!?

Uh, how else are you putting down a beeched whale? It didn't feel a thing. Probably twice as humane as euthinasia. Don't believe me? blow your head off with tnt and tell me you felt something. yeah, thought so. It's dead, it's an ANIMAL, and they solved a crapload of problems by doing it this way. It's dead, just the brain didn't know it yet, and it's better than all alternatives. They coulda tried to rescue it and fed it to the sharks alive, yaknow!
