Flower's radio collar was removed shortly after she was found. Rocket Dog's was loosened. This is in keeping with a policy the research project has toward head/neck injuries in collared meerkats.
Look how comfortable that Meerkat on his shoulder is! This is why I want to be a wildlife biologist. Being able to study animals in their natural environment at such close range, it's always been my dream. They get to learn about creatures that few people ever see beyond their television sets. What a life...Perhaps one day...
If the meerkats overpopulate, then diseases like plague and TB will break out and correct the overpopulation. Still, I understand your anguish about Flower. But, in their defense, the researchers didn't know that she wouldn't retreat into her burrow and make a full recovery, and thus, improve the species by making them more immune to cobra venom in the future. Meerkats often do survive. I would hate to think, though, that the radio collar around her neck contributed to her death.
They're observing how meerkats behave and survive in the wild. To do this, they have to maintain as much of a distance as they can, and not interfere, or the data they collect will be useless. Overall, this will help science to make educated choices if the meerkats' habitat is threatened.
On a side note, I live in Canada, and migratory birds like the Canada Goose often have their cycles interrupted by naive people who keep giving them food. Then they freeze to death. (The geese, not the people)
look i hate that to but u cant mess with the way of nature what so u save a meerkat from a jackle and let the jackle starve to death? NO!! its the same thing of a meerkat starving to death!!
I LOVE meerkat manor so much. When I'm older i want to be a researcher and study meerkats in the kalahari.

Why not eating meat?
It's like saying to a meerkat "don't eat grubs, they are poor".. -.-
Get a life..
