  • I was schooled in Steve's playing by Erik Frandsen... Frandsen in many ways I think best reproduced Steve's style and unique arrangements...Look Erik Frandsen up here on Youtube there's some videos of him here finally...

  • @TJTele ; I've known Erik for many years, and he is indeed a fine player, and one of the few to really explore Steve's playing in the early days. He also now has a presence on Facebook.

  • Increíble guitarrista bluesman. Acabo de descubrir "Stright life" gracias a unas lecciones de Stefan Grossman y estoy alucinando con la técnica de este hombre.

  • I first saw Steve while wasting some time in the Blue Unicorn coffee shop in the Haight, bout 1966. It was an amazing scene and he was incredible. Next time was at a Big Sur folk festival when he sorta crashed the stage while Joan, Mama Cass, Judy, Mimi and Joanie were playing. Called himself the Wild Man from the Mountains. Played for about 15 minutes, blew everyone away, walked off. Damn, I do remember some of it.

  • I had the pleasure of seeing Mr. Mann a couple times in L.A. thanks to Keith McNulty dusting him off and buying him a suit, booking him some gigs. He always looked a little frightened to me off stage, but on stage he was amazing. I always expected him to screw up, and he never did! I remember being amazed that the same hand that felt so frail to shake, played such amazing guitar. Rest in peace.

  • RIP, Steve...

  • I just found out about Steve Mann and his music through Ralph Barr and Bernie Pearl in Long Beach very tragic

  • Steve passed away Sept. 8 2009. RIP

  • Very touching story ... reminds me of "The Soloist" ... recommended movie.

  • What a pleasure to see and hear Steve here on YouTube. He opened up the world of traditional blues to me so many years ago down in Los Angeles for which I'll always owe him. His playing is always an inspiration. He's a man of true soul.
