In 1998, on a September night in Houston, police stormed into John Lawrence's home and arrested him and Tyron Garner for violating Texas' "homosexual conduct" law. "Overruled!" highlights their story and the courtroom drama behind Lawrence v. Texas -- the case that led the U.S. Supreme Court to strike down all remaining state sodomy laws and launched a new era in the LGBT rights movement.

I bar tended at on of Johns favorite hangouts in Houston. He became a good customer and friend. He was fun, funny, and generous. Great guy to talk with. He was not only one of my favorite customers but we had dinner several times outside the bar. He would sometimes bring me cologne and underwear which I thought was such a cute gesture. Had a GREAT sense of humor. I had not seen him is a while and wish I could have talked with him a little more before he passed. He will be missed.

2:04 "Someone called 911". It was Robert Eubanks, the man Garner lived with, and had a stormy relationship with. Eubanks thought Garner was flirting with Lawrence, got jealous, and then made the call.
3:06 Despite the "no contest" plea, in fact when the police arrived, the men were clothed, in separate rooms, not having sex.
It disappoints me when our side is weaselly. We have justice on our side, so just tell the whole truth. Indeed, the facts of this case highlight the law's viciousness..

An important reminder that sexual choices should be made between consenting partners. This is a private matter that should not be subject to shifting - and often wrong - public morals. The current debate on contraception proves people need to study their history and their constitution. States have no business poking their noses in our bedrooms.
