Many large and wealthy property owners are cashing in on Oregon's farms and forest lands. We are losing the pristine nature of what Oregon has always been. Measure 37 did not make things clear, even commissioners are trying to figure out how to handle claims into the future.

Thankfully Clackamas County commissioners, Martha Schrader, Bill Kennemer in particular, had the idea to send large properties of either large acreage, or large subdivisions, up for automatic public hearing. Under the measure they didn't even have to do that.

Measure 37 set our state up for future litigations, which comes from yours and my tax dollars. This gives certain property owners the ability to make any claim they want and leaves the county without recourse to protect our lands for fear of legal ramifications.

Voters who voted for this are upset that it has come to this. They are the main reason Measure 49 was put into place. Measure 49 came from the outcry of the public, many of whom voted for measure 37

Interestingly, Larry Sowa who lost for re-election fall of 2006, filed a Measure 37 claim with his wife shortly after losing his seat to Lynn Peterson. Lynn is now the Vice Chair and Martha Schrader is the Chair of Clackamas County commissioners.
