@1942tj The Russians already had the Tu-114, which was the airliner version of the Tu-95. Wider body and set up for passenger service. Like the Tu-95, it had incredible speed, duration, graceful lines, and reliability BUT, was loud! On a long trip, a quiet cabin really matters.

The blackjack is the bomber the soviet government was looking for over the course of the entire cold war and finally got it near the end. Personally I also like the bear more than any other
