I wanted to try and get the Billy Gibbons namm guitar tone since the modded Valve JR was close...
I spent about 5 hours making it worse ... then went back to square one and used negative feedback to get rid of all of the stuff that was excess to the pure sweet distortion tone...

since Billy dosn't tell people what he uses other than we know he likes small tweed type amps
i'll leave the rest of the speculation up to y'all ... spec's to be put up soon

the negative feedback resistor value is 3.3 meg ... just enough to reduce overshoot and odd noises

to get the exact tone Billy has lost a little more top end ..
Via more feedback or a strategically located supression cap ... I won't do this till I see how the amp performs in a club setting ideally you'd build one with a kt88 or el34 for a full 7 or 8 watts vs the 4 your now hear

specs C1 = .01, C2 = .02 , r6 = 10k, r 7 delete, r15 = 150k, R5 = 1 meg, C3 = remove & connect Feedback 3 meg @ 4 ohm, Power supply C6 = c9 47mfd, R13 = 4.7k optional c4 + 220 mfd (bfg), or .68 early (VH) for super lead type tone C1 +.002 dial in to suit

  • make one that sounds like a fender twin reverb

  • @dysfac funny thing is I've now done something like that now ...

  • your instructions say c2= .02. Do you maybe mean .022? I can't find .02 in that style for a cap.

It doesn't look like you wrote down what value resistor you used for JM1.

Thanks for the vids on this mod.

  • @GrizAdams111 .02 and .022 are the exact same thing

  • "Cover Band Rock Tone"? I am now eagerly awaiting the release of the CBRT-1 overdrive pedal!

  • @sinnamonz the pedal is done it comes in either a TS9 or YGM308 version lol

  • @dysfac thats what Twin reverbs are for I have one that has not been fired up in 10 years

    or more ... lol

  • @elchiguete Final specs are listed in the video info all you need is a used amp an accurate factory schematic and good soldering skills ... (the traces lift easily!)

I do change stuff I can't resist ... I often do two amps at once as a reality check & sometimes you have to back off on a good idea if the gain becomes unstable FWIW this amp has remained like this since the VID

  • Friend I believe you have cornered the Dragon.

  • @patfurlan Where can I find the diagram and the parts list?

  • @TheAndyroid Im not trying to give him a hard time ... but I really do find the guitar mags have done a terrible disservice to us all over the years by perpetuating the stock gear myths ... especially when the players are running around with spray cans and power tools & building parts guitars & claiming the amp is stock ( EVH )

when clearly he cant keep his hands out of any of his gear ... or to put it another way ANYONE want to buy my used expandora pedal ...

  • @patfurlan I don't think music8stuart meant any disrespect. Just sounds like he heard a top tip from a guitar mag. We all know there's more to that soulful amp tone than 'marshall' and eq 'settings!

  • @patfurlan

that would be great since you did 2 mod videos then this one saying to forget what you did before... so to not messed up the thing it would be great for one diagram of the final product :)
