Medium resolution download 152MB MP4 available here http://justvirtual.com/Shadows_SecondLife_GHazlitt.mp4

A quick exploration of some of Gary Hazlitt's old builds using the Space Navigator and running Windlight in Day cycle mode (the sun and moon take a minute or two to do a full rotation) - hence lots of moving shadows across the landscapes and builds. The whole process: 1 hour of capture, 1.5 hour edit and 2 hours on music track.

Music was composed on Logic Pro mostly using Spectrasonics omnisphere plug-in synth.

I used a top end NVidia GTX280 high spec graphics card with all SL graphics settings at max. The video was captured at PAL resolution using Fraps and the raw files edited using Adobe Premiere.

  • Hy all, I'm in a trouble. I get 5-6 FPS and it's a crap to play. In the Graphics tab, I can adjust the sliders, I set to low all the sliders and I still get only 5 FPS. I would want to run the game at a lower resolution, like 800x600, I run my desktop at 1280x1024, so the game runs at the desktop's one. I don't see anywhere the resolution button to change, where is it? At the others, it appears, but at me, no way.

  • Having tried shadows I know how big a performance hit that is. I am looking for an upgrade to my system ti improve my Machinima. I assume you are using a Quadcore and a lot of RAM? You say you used Ultra. What was the dra distance and I asssume AA has t be off to enable shadows? I used KirstenLee Shadow viewer with minimal results and wasn't successful in other viewers with my duocore 9800GT due to the AA seemingly being broken. Maybe an issue with the Invidia Control panel?

  • i do think we're not ready for second life!

  • what for pc hardware have you? can you list it please?

cpu, ram (how fast) , graphiccard, hd or ssd, and so on

  • the thing is do you have a grathics card that can suport dynamic shadows?

  • You can run them in the latest viewer. Just open the debug options, make sure "renderDeferred" is false, set "RenderUseFBO" true, then "renderDeferred" true. Bam, dynamic shadows. So long as you have a high enough card for it. If you don't, then you won't get the shadows. There can be some render and alpha issues with them, but I can't play without them now.

  • how did you get dynamic shadows? i mean i run on ultra and i still don't get graphics like that. is that a different viewer or something?

  • except for those who use fullbright x_O

  • wow, if i had a kutje it would be soaking wet.

  • dynamic! nicely**
