Tater Patch - 6-String Fretless Banjo (Clawhammer)

'Tater Patch' in the equivalent of gGDGBD (actually tuned down to around E with minstrel gauge Nylgut strings plus a classical guitar low E) on my newly acquired 6-string banjo (5 long strings plus a short drone). I get drawn to this video on a regular basis. That banjo is inspirational. Are the decorations on the fretboard inlays? If so, what are they made of?

Yeah, quite a banjo! The inlays are mother of pearl, most have a little varnish over them as the entire finger board was varnished, so they look a little more yellow than you'd expect.
