Much of the African continent is reflecting on the words of American President Barack Obama, out of his addressed to Ghanas Parliament. In a speech beamed live to millions across the globe, Obama pledged Americas helping hand to Africa, including a 63 billion dollar commitment to health care programmes on the continent. But the US leader also cautioned against the ills of corruption and poor governance that he says threaten Africas development.

  • @tonylee1973 The American money should be spent on Americans. If that money was spent making education affordable and quality in the USA people wouldn't be so gullible as to listen to the garbage coming from their politicians. Half the people who voted to go to war in Iraq or Afghanistan did not know where those countries are located. It is amazing how especially the republicans play with the public like a toy.

  • @CuteHabeshaGirl It seems the people of the world seem to immigrate to the US though. Shouldn't that money (the american peoples money) be spent in america?

  • @tonylee1973 Your money is spent for the benefit of big corporations who lobby your politicians. If 1/3 of that money was spent actually doing good the world would have a much different outlook on USA. Citizens need to take control of the politicians.

  • @CuteHabeshaGirl I can say that taxpayers here are furious regarding foreign aid. Our wealth is being sent to other countries. I don't know what interest it is in. Shouldn't the US just be neutral? not send aid or take sides?

  • @tonylee1973 Simple. EPRDF, the ruling ethnic minority party of Ethiopia which shot dead 190+ civilians on the streets of Addis (the capital) during contested election protests, receive billions of dollars from USA. We hoped Obama would stop relations with this man who is also accused of Genocide by GenocideWatch. But it has continued in the name of USA's "interest" (invasion of Somalia.)

  • President Obama needs to level with third world countries. Their will not be a magic aid project that ends all of the worlds problems. Hard work and education are what raises standard of living.

  • @CuteHabeshaGirl How is he supporting dictators?

  • YO!! Whats nonsense about what I do?

  • GOOD GOVERNANCE .. allow unfetterd access to Africas minerals, create unfavourable conditions for local bussiness while allowing foriegn Investors free reign, to pollute, exploite, deny basic human rights, allow tax free breaks to multi nationals, create and maintain jobs for unemployed US and Euro expats.

WELL DONE AFRICAN LEADERS WE ARE PROUD OF YOUR POLICIES!!

  • Don't blame Obama for the decay of this economy. He's only been in office for 6 months. There's no way he could have destroyed it or even come close to restoring it. Blame that sorry excuse in need of an assassination former president bush. This asshole is the one who's irresponsibilty and sorry excuse for leadership wasted the county's 8 years and destroyed the economy. So get your shotguns ready, head on over to Craword, TX and blow the shit out of Bush.
