For what it's worth my CCW instructor who is also a deputy sherrif told us the black talon is no longer sold because when the mushroom out,the copper jacket was very sharp and jagged. He said the gangbangers were notorious for using it. When the surgeons were removing the bullets they could often pierce the gloves and fingers of the surgeon. Exposing them to Aids and disease. He also said they would not pierce body armor. Any myth busters out there ?

Ever shot any body armor with your Black Talons? You'll find that a Level IIA vest will have no problem stopping them.

There's no such thing as a "Teflon vest." If there were, it wouldn't provide protection against anything worse than a fried egg. Black Talon (now sold as "Ranger SXT") had and has no qualities that make it more penetrative than any other hollowpoint. Two thin layers of an old kevlar PASGT jacket will stop a modern 9mm Hydra-Shok. It won't prevent it from causing tremendous internal bleeding or broken bones and likely killing someone, but it will stop the bullet from penetrating.

i got a bunch of black talons for my smith and wesson 9mm.and theydo penetrate body armor and will shoot at a little bit higher velocity than the average hollow point ,oh and the`re illegal hope that helped

Black talon can go through Teflon Vest. Outlawed for that reason. My dad has about 20 of them (retired cop).
