  • Thanks for the comment 19tiger74. Do you know of any 'salaryman' type hotels that have English web pages and allow booking on line? I get involved in sending a lot of foreign business travelers to Japan, many are coming for the first time and do not speak any Japanese, so it's difficult for them to navigate many of the Japanese salary man budget hotels. If you know of any reasonable 7,500 yen hotels that have English reservation systems I would be pleased to know. Thanks

  • Unfortunately, with the exchange rates the way they are now, 22,000 yen is now about $266 (plus exchange fees, etc).

  • Thanks for the comment cryptnotic. Yes, you are right and the current exchange rate issue is a big 'ouch' for foreign executives when they are considering the travel budget and wider cost of doing business in Japan. I've had several clients either scale back or postpone their trips to Japan due to the increasing cost. On balance of course, it's happy times for Japanese companies to invest overseas!

  • We actually had to do a bit of background work to get Richard Quest into the Media Cafe to film. Language skills (even some basic ones) will help a lot, but it is possible to use these places with no (or very limited) Japanese language ability. Like many things in Japan; if you are polite, courteous, respectful and not too pushy then you should get a warm welcome.

  • I had no idea you could stay overnight in Japan at such a reasonable price, and with all the cleanliness and comforts on offer at the media café. The noodle bar also looks very healthy and fresh (in addition to great value). It is good to see that people can travel to Japan on a budget, for business or leisure. Is it very easy to check in to the media café’s as a foreigner who can not speak Japanese?
