!! Please switch 360p to 480p for better quality !!
---------------------------------------------------------------------
1825 Beethoven wrote some sketches for a 10th symphony, for example the opening 24 measures for a Scherzo (titled 'Presto') and 7 measures for a Trio as a middle part of the movement. This Scherzo theme is one of the most furious and powerful Scherzo themes I know, somewhat a mixture of the Scherzo themes of his fith symphony and Schumann's first symphony. I made an atttempt to develop these themes to a whole symphonic movement.

For a better technical quality you may go to:

The recording was made with the software tool Garritan Personal Orchestra. Eventhough there hasn't been an orchestral performance yet I hope you'll get an idea of what Beethoven might have had in mind with this sketched theme by listening to this clip...

In the clip the original sketches are presented: Line 1 - 3 Scherzo main theme, line 3 - 4 Trio theme.
Furthermore: Line 5 -6 introduction and main theme for the first movement

  • You are a VERY good composer! How many years of experience do you have?

  • @SirSebastianWang Thank you :-) Your question is hard to answer, I began sometimes in the mid 90s and composesed something every one in a while without ever having a professional education.

You may visit me at my new website gerdprengel.de to check some other works of mine...

  • look at line 3 (right half) and line 4 of the presented sketch page

What do you think of it?

  • @gprengel I've never looked at Beethoven sketches before, only a little Mahler and R. Strauss. Not used to B's hand. Even Mahler is clearer. End of three looks like orchestration indications, then at the end I can't tell. Line four looks like a few measures of bass notes, like a shorthand of a figured bass, to indicate the harmonic progression, perhaps.

Or not. It's been years since grad school. :)

  • @manthasagittarius

in the end of line 3 till line 4 there is the theme of the middle part of the Scherzo (Trio). you find it at about 2:55 of my mp3 file and score...

  • I don't know of such a comment by Mr. Cooper .... but there is no other scherzo sketch for the 10th symphony, so I guess this is the one you mean

  • Today I made the discovery that sound quality (not just the graphic quality) improves significantly by switching from 360p to 480p !!

    Please do so ....

  • sounds like a mixture between the first movement of the 5th and the second movement of the 9th..

  • @daemongrip .... Yes!

  • The 9th symphony is so good I want to believe this is a fake, because this one could either not be as good as the 9th or better, so I would have to change favorites.

  • i cannot understand why all the abilities to put concerts and orchestras together why not try get all unfinished works fully orchestrated by a full bench orchestras??short of talent or money?? thanks to the efforts to those who are already trying...

  • Fun dude! Super fun!

When I clicked I was expecting the typical youtube mis-label and thought, "oh god... what is this piece really? It's probably something by Bach that someone just labeled Beethoven 'cause they're dumb". What a neat surprise! Glad you know your shit! Keep makin' stuff!
