I too loved Nova (Yuki) when I was a kid. So feminine, yet so strong and determined. A warrior in her own right, and willing to sacrifice herself to allow others to succeed. That is classic literature for you. Be it Juliet, Snow White, or Nova, when the heroine is gallantly sacrificed, it just pierces your heart. William Shakespear must have known that well!

@mattmanganon What I think it is is what kind of character she is. Also, when watching the USA translations as a kid, she was pretty darn b-e-a-u-tiful in my 8/9 year old mind. That kind of memory has a way getting embedded. On top of that, I'm pretty sure I can speak for lots of guys that there is just something about a girl who's apparent first thought in the day and her last thought at night is her man that is just plain hot.

@mattmanganon Yuki is a typical of everything a boy can dream about - beautiful, smart yet graceful, feminine yet resourceful, compassionate yet brave... The 70's war sci-fi anime always have a girl like Yuki. Female combatants got tougher and ugly(inside) in 80's.

@mattmanganon You got me there...I'd like to see more women on Argo/SBY. At least one should be short, curvey but athletic. And a brunette! I mean Yuki is a Japanese name, therefore she must be Japanese. I know it's popular for Japanese girls to go blond, BUT COME ON! Even her parents were dark haired. To be fair tho', my brown haired brother was blond as a child. Dadburnit, I COMMAND Leiji to make MORE Female crew members!! My fantacy tiny curvey brunette could even be a confidant to Yuki....

I bring that up 'cause My daughter, who is interested in my happiness wants me to find a wife, but is in the habit of asking disturbing questions about animated characters like, "Dad, if You could date any girl from Justice League Unlimated, who would it be?" Space Knots? Mega-Meters? Interference barriers? This is a modern interpretation of Space Cruiser Yamato. Why do they stick to this odd techno-verbage? I could understand it back in the late seventies when this show was first made, but an up-date is in order.
