I would like to introduce to you the Best Jazzrock Solos By with most stunning and hot improvisations of the best musicians of all time like John McLaughlin, Allan Holdsworth, George Duke, Jean-Luc Ponty, Al Di Meola, Santana and more.

Also stay tuned for specials like Best Fender Piano Solos Ever or Weirdest Moog Solos Ever.

Today you have the first part of Best Jazzrock Solos By: Jan Hammer, the great keyboardist and composer mostly known from his historical work with John McLaughlin's Mahavishnu Orchestra or Jeff Beck and as a composer of a music for Miami Vice.

However he is a bit unappreciated as a soloist. He is never counted with stars like Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Joe Zawinul, George Duke, Keith Jarrett, Deodato and even thinking of great sidemans you can say about Bob James, Don Grolnick, Ronnie Foster, Dave Grusin but rarely anem Jan Hammer.

The first part of the movie is devoted for his work with Mahavishnu Orchestra in the years 1971-1973. He's briliant Fender Piano playing (with some additions of effects, like ring modulator) was one of the brightest point of the first MO album.

With the "Birds of Fire" LP we can discover that Jan is trying to imitate the sound of John's electric guitar and the effect is fantastic. You would here also this guitar-like Moog playing in later works.

The last two pieces are live recordings which show Jan in his best. No studio and time limits, just pure keyboard drive.

And remember that this is only 1971-1973 period. Try to compare it with other music from this time. I'm sure that after hearing this music you will have no doubt that Jan should be placed with the best of the best from 70s keyboard players.

  • The MoogerFooger wasn't invented in 1972. He used an Oberheim RingModulator (later sold by and branded Maestro). I had one, and I saw Mahavishnu live in 72.

  • @bblix Thanks for this comment, that's important one. Can you tell me how do you know what device Hammer had used?

  • Great guy to pattern your guitar playing after...

  • This is incredible! Awesome stuff!

  • The videos I saw, Hammer used a Moog, or at least it looked like a Moog. I saw MO in late '73, but I don't believe he used it, he was pretty much sticking to straight Rhodes and Minimoog most of the concert. I wish they would release the concert I went to on wolfgang's vault.

  • @Oneness100 No no no he had a Bode Frequency Shifter "module 1630"

I know becase i have one!

Just clearing things up i you don't mind!?

  • awesome stuff..I'm a "classic" rocker...(Led Zepplin 1st album)

  • I believe is was a MF 102 Moogerfooger ring modulator on the Rhodes on Inner Mounting Flame

  • Jan is the best synth soloist imo, all of the others learned FROM Jan.

  • The best Jan Hammer synth solo is No Fear from the Like Children album. Spine tingling!!!
