Dopo lo strepitoso successo dell'era glaciale 3, che ha incassato ben 884 milioni di dollari, la 20 Century Fox ha deciso di investire in un quarto capitolo, anch'esso rigorosamente in 3D e in uscita negli States il 31 luglio 2012. In questo nuovo episodio i protagonisti Manny, Sid e Diego se la dovranno vedere con la separazione dei continenti e la formazione della Terra come adesso la conosciamo.
