"You're ditching me?" Hazel sobbed three weeks later as she looked up at a stone-faced Nick.
"Yeah, Hazel. I suppose you could call it that?"
"Why?"
"Come off it Hazel, as if you don't know."
"What? What do I know?"
Nick thought of about one hundred things he could say to that, but he wasn't there to trash talk. Instead he took a deep breath and looked her directly in the eyes. "You like Joe."
Hazel broke at that point. A little bit of her died. "What are you talking about?"
"Oh, don't even try to deny it."
Hazel looked down. Nick was right, something happened that night on the pier. She couldn't put her finger on when or where it happened but Hazel had known, she had always known that subconsciously her attraction to Joe was always there, hidden beneath her incomprehensible love for Nick.
"Nick, I-"
"No Hazel."
"Nick."
"No." And with that Nicholas Jonas walked out of Hazel Fletchers life.

Years passed. In fact, Hazel was now nineteen years old. "Yeah, but I refuse to take his last name." She told Xanthe as they walked down the shopping strip.
"Why?"
"His last name is Simpson."
"So?"
"So... My initials would read H.M.S! H.M.S Hazel, not something I really want to be branded if you don't mind."
"But they're getting married, you have to take his last name." Xanthe said, trying to hold back a laugh.
A man wearing glasses and a winter coat bumped into Hazel and she whinced.
"Still sore?" Xanthe asked looking at where Hazel was clutching her hip.
"Yeah, it is."
"Well, c'mon, let's check it out in the bathroom."
"Fine." Hazel followed Xanthe into a public restroom and she rolled up her shirt to reveal a small Heart tattoo with 'NJ' written on the inside. (In video at the end)
"I still can't believe you talked me into letting you get that done." Xanthe muttered looking down at the tattoo on her friends hip.
"Well, it's amazing what I've learned to do." Hazel muttered as she looked over at her reflection. Her purpe eyes had lost their spark and her hair had become limp and dry. Maybe her body was tired of her moping. It didn't matter to Hazel though, she was too busy being happy for Xanthe and her boyfriend, also Hazels step brother Aaron.
"So, you're going out with Aaron tonight then?" Hazel asked Xanthe as she fixed her lipgloss.
"Yeah, I think so, unless you want to hang out?"
"Nah, you go, have fun. I think I'll just sit in my room and write again."
"Not the diary again Hazel." Xanthe groaned. Ever since her breakup with Nick, Hazel had been writing everything she thought, everything she felt, pretty much every detail of her life into her diary so that in twenty years time she could look back on it and think about everything she had. What Hazel didn't know is if she read it from page one, she'd realise she had a blessed life, and that some things weren't as bad as she thought.
"Hazel, you get all caught up in that stupid diary of yours and you totally forget about being happy. Hazel, Aaron is worried about you, I'm worried about you, god even N- no, never mind."
"My diary is NOT stupid Xan. Wait... N- whose N-?"
"Ned. Ned uh Masters."
"Our principal who's on a sebaticle?"
"Yeah, that's it."
Hazel didn't buy it, in fact, it broke Hazels heart to know what she knew.
